The Schuberts established their vineyards with a clear intention of working with, rather than against, nature. It's an harmonious integration of landscape and inhabitants.

The philosophy behind planting the lands in proportion of approximately half vineyards and half South Australian native trees, grasses and shrubs was to ensure a natural corridor for wildlife, land care sustainability and a pleasant vista.

The vineyards are carefully maintained using organic and natural products to maintain the quality and enhance the soil.

Plantings are easily accessed with wide rows of 3.6 metres and vines planted at 2 metre spacing to a wire height of 1.2 metres. All single wire trellis, wooden posts, North South orient well suited to take advantage of sunlight hours and complement "terrior". All the vines are hand pruned and the grapes of the major vineyards are hand picked. After the grapes are harvested a cover crop is planted using oats, barley or Faba beans. The cover crop is mulched onto the soil, in late spring, for natural weed control, moisture conservation and soil enrichment. Only the minimum amount of tractor traffic is tolerated. To control low water sub-soil levels the Enviroscan system is used. Radar controlled bird-scare devises are used to control pest species.

Roennfeldt Road Vineyards

Schubert Estate is located on Roennfeldt Road, Marananga, an area highly regarded for its vineyards. Roennfeldt Road's 'Terroir' shows such a great substance and command that its intrinsic worth merits single vineyard bottlings such as Torbreck's Descendant; Greenock Creek's Roennfeldt Road Block, Two Hands Zippies Block' Greenock Creek's Roennfeldt Road Block and Schubert Estate's Goose-yard Block.

Roennfeldt Road - It's the 'golden mile' of premium producing vineyards and Schubert Estate is right in the midst of it all. Next door to the Schuberts are the Torbreck vineyards and on the other side the Penfold Stonewell Road vineyards. Straight across the road from the Schuberts are two of Greenock Creek's vineyards as well as their crushing and winemaking facility.

As growers the Schuberts first supplied their grapes to their neighbour, David Powell when he first started making his wine and established Torbreck Vintners, on Roennfeldt Road. Whilst they continue to supply to Torbreck the Schuberts also supply their grapes to Standish Wines as well as other award-winning wineries.
